Maryville Technologies has developed a unique solution that greatly enhances the administration and management of heterogeneous computing infrastructures. The entility® Navigator (eNav) solution provides IT, operations, security, finance and support organizations easy access to valuable hardware and software systems inventory and configuration information.
eNav collects detailed asset and configuration data from servers (UNIX, Linux and Windows systems),
stores that data in a central repository and then provides valuable data analysis functionality via
configurable reports and compliance analysis tools. The result is a single, secure website that enables you to
view and compare information about the varied systems in your enterprise using a common interface.
Features and Benefits
Maryville Technologies developed eNav based on interaction with customers in complex computing environments. eNav provides the following:
|
|
eNav agents collect data from UNIX, Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X systems. eNav agents are small and scheduled to run when you want. |
| The eNav web server runs on a small system residing anywhere on your network. |
|
| The browser based GUI makes accessing eNav data from local and remote locations simple. |
|
eNav is designed to be managed by systems administrators and it uses |
|
| eNav can be customized to provide meaningful reports that reflect how you administer and manage your servers in your environment. |
|
| eNav requires users to logon and it includes user-based security allowing you to determine and control each user’s systems access. |
|
| eNav is an inexpensive and easy to implement solution that provides a quick ROI. |
Asset and Configuration Data
Maryville has developed eNav agents for the following server platforms: Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Tru64, Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.
We have recently added new agents for the following networking devices: F5 BIG-IPs and Cyclades Terminal Servers.
We are always evaluating the possibility of adding new agents. Each eNav agent collects information such as:
-
Hardware Information:
Vendor, model, number of CPU’s and speed, memory, internal and external disks, interface cards, network interfaces, etc.
-
Configuration Data:
Network configuration, installed patches/service packs, file system information, kernel parameters, users & groups, running processes, etc.
-
Software Inventory:
OS and version, installed products, and bundles (standard and non-standard)
Additionally, eNav allows you to record custom information for each server. This might include the physical location, primary application, server group name, server owner/administrator, purchase date or lease start/end dates, maintenance contract information, serial numbers, environment (production, lab, or test), etc.
The information collected is completely customizable by the user.
Reports
eNav delivers reports and analysis that display individual server details, summary information for multiple servers and invaluable comparison analysis. Example reports include:
Individual Server Reports:
- Server Details: Displays detailed data collected for an individual server.
- Change History: Shows what changed and when. Includes changes to configuration files, addition or removal of patches, applications, users, interfaces, disks, memory etc.
- Product Licenses: Displays the installed license keys and whether or not the keys are still valid for Veritas and BEA products.
-
Patch Check (Sun): Compares the patch levels for a server with Sun's recommended security patch list.
Multiple Server Reports:
- Server Summary: Displays asset information about all, or a subset, of servers.
- Software Summary: Allows you to search for installed software across multiple servers.
- Network Interfaces: Shows network information for a set of servers including interface, IP address, MAC address and up/down status.
- Filesystems: Displays all filesystems for a set of servers including total, available and used space.
- DNS Configuration: Displays DNS information for a selected set of servers.
- Support Summary: Displays support information (if entered into eNav) for a set of servers.
- User Search: Search for a user across all your servers.
- Running Processes: Search servers for active processes (e.g. httpd).
- Patch / HotFix Installation Dates: Shows the date patches were installed on multiple systems.
- Software Installation Dates: Shows the date software/applications were installed on multiple systems.
Comparison Reports:
- Patch / Service Pack Comparison: Compares systems for differences in the patches / service packs that have been installed.
- Software Comparison: Compares systems for differences in installed software, down to the version level.
- Custom Software Comparison: Compares differences in non-standard software, down to the version.
- Users & Group Comparisons: Compares users and the groups across multiple servers.
- Tunable Kernel Parameters: Compares tunable parameters on multiple systems and flags the differences.
Policy Compliance Reports and Utilities:
- Policy Generator: Build a policy or “Gold Standard” configuration for a device type.
- Policy Editor: Keep existing policies current, delete old policies, rename and copy existing policies.
- Exception Editor: Document policy exceptions on a per server basis.
- Policy Compliance: Report on policy deviations. Display easy-to-read reports showing which servers are out-of-compliance. Policy examples include: Patch/Software, Security, Jumpstart Configurations, Sarbanes Oxley compliance, etc.
